Demo 2 Demo 1
Concert Artist instruments are widely regarded as the finest digital pianos available. Professional musicians that demand authentic touch and tone favor KAWAI’s wooden key action and Harmonic Imaging sound technology, while teachers praise the built-in lessons and finger exercises. The inclusion of other instrumental sounds, such as pipe organs and strings, adds to the versatility of the Concert Artist instruments. And for aspiring hobbyists, the convenient USB audio feature allows music to be played through the instrument’s speaker system, serving as an invitation to accompany their favorite artists. It’s even possible to record audio files without leaving the keyboard, a convenience that is rare among digital pianos.
The touch of a grand piano
The keyboard action of an acoustic grand piano has remained largely unchanged for centuries, employing long wooden keys that rise and fall in a seesaw motion, to trigger hammers that strike strings. It’s an intricate, yet beautifully designed
mechanism that allows pianists to express a wealth of feeling and emotion in their playing.
The Concert Artist’s RM3 Grand action embraces the very same, long-established acoustic piano principles of material, motion, and mechanism to faithfully recreate the exceptional touch of a fine concert grand. First, all eighty-eight black and white keys are crafted entirely from long pieces of wood, with finely textured ivory-like surfaces applied to absorb moisture and assist control. Each wooden key pivots smoothly on a central balance pin – the ends rising then falling with gravity to replicate the natural motion of an acoustic piano action. When pressed, the back of each key triggers a grade-weighted hammer which, in turn, strikes a switch to play the note. Additional counter-weights placed at the front of the bass keys help to lighten their heavier touch during pianissimo passages – again, another refinement borrowed from the acoustic piano action, while the new let-off feature even recreates the subtle ‘notch’ sensation felt when gently playing the keys of a grand. Over eighty years of experience in building the world’s finest acoustic pianos clearly influences our digital piano engineers, and ensures that the Concert Artist will satisfy the demands of even the most discerning pianist.
